Self Study

Amateur radio Foundation Qualification

Prior to the training and assessment weekend, our education team recommend candidates undertake self study, using or more of the following resources;

  • download the free Foundation Level Study Guide from https://vkradioamateurs.org/flsg/, or,
  • purchase the "Your Entry Into Amateur Radio" book from the Wireless Institute of Australia, https://www.wia.org.au/licenses/foundation/foundationmanual/

Both of these resources cover the theory, regulations and practical components for the amateur radio foundation level qualification assessment.

In addition, candidates will need to be familar with the current Radiocommunications (Amateur Stations) Class Licence 2023 (RCL) which can be downloaded from the ACMA website.

During the training and assessment weekend, the education team will review the foundation level componants to clarify candidates understanding of the theory and regulations, with a hands on demonstration of the practical component.

Amateur Radio Standard or Advanced Qualification

Candidates should undertake self study prior to undertaking either the standard or advanced level assessment. Our education team suggest the resources provided by the Radio and Electronics School, http://www.res.net.au/ The education team do not provide theory or regulations training for the standard or advanced level qualification.

In addition, candidates will need to be familar with related to the appropriate syllabus and the current Radiocommunications (Amateur Stations) Class Licence 2023 (RCL) which can be downloaded from the ACMA website.

A practical assessment is also required for the standard or advanced level qualification, unless you have previously obtained the foundation level qualification. For candidates upgrading to advanced level, from the legacy standard (Novice) qualification level, you should consult with our accredited assessors regarding the practical assessment.
